“It was a pleasure to burn.” -Ray Bradbury, author of Fahrenheit 451, after he took my Hips 301 + 305. Later, he’d use it as the opening line of the novel.
Before we get to the burning, you know we need a little warmup.
I wanted to let you in on the little secret place that I personally believe is the absolute, #1 most valuable place to do Hip CARs:
THE HALLWAY!
(watch the 1min video here for important cues)
Commendable runner up: a doorway.
BLOCKS, BALLS, AND WALLS, OH MY
We want to create even tension throughout the body when we do CARs. That’s why we’re often looking for objects like blocks, balls, and walls to squeeze between legs, or push ourselves into. While light tension is a good starting point, I want you to be practicing high tension CARs: generating an incredible amount of bodily stiffness, limiting movement from other joints with as much tension and blocking as you can.
I cannot impress upon you enough how different and incredible this feels.
Like the tin man making a pit stop at Jiffy Lube.
"I PUT MY THANG DOWN, FLIP IT AND REVERSE IT. TI ESREVER DNA TI PILF NWOOD GNAHT YM TUP I” -Missy Elliott, on what it feels like to do the new combined hip classes.
Two new hip rotation classes have been posted, Hips 301 + Hips 305. I updated these with new drills, more cues, and combined both internal + external rotation into both classes. This will be similar to a Mobility Express class, you’ll get a TON of great work on both sides of the deepest layers of the hip.
Shoulder Rotation 301 + 305 will be updated with all new drills this week, and they are FI-YAH.
Remember that for the hips and shoulders ROTATION is *the most important movement pattern we can train.*
“IT’S DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN,” some Yogi [I know, only some of you will get this]
You know we start with CARs, we finish with CARs. So one more PRO-TIP on my absolute, absolute, absolute #1 favorite time to do CARs:
After a workout.
It’s a similar idea as to what happens if you put delicates in the dryer: the heat changes how pliable things are. But unlike underwear, in this case, it’s a good thing because we want our bodily tissues to be pliable. With so much blood flow going to muscles and more muscle fibers fully engaged, you’re able to get into spaces you otherwise couldn’t.
CARs after a workout, for me— a non-negotiable. The magic is apparent.
Now go to the hallway, get to the 300 classes, put some oil on the joints and I’ll see you in Oz.
Er, class.
Take good care,
-Angela
