“I feel good, like I knew that I would.” -James Brown, who got inspiration for this famous song after taking the new Shoulders 301 +305 classes :)
As we swing into summer, remember this: we want to wear ‘cold shoulder’ tops, not frozen shoulder joints.
Frozen shoulder is a frustrating condition that can last anywhere from 6 months to 3 years, often affecting people over 40 years old, and slightly more women than men. It’s onset can occur suddenly or gradually. While there is no universally understood cause, it’s more likely to happen when the shoulder is immobilized for long periods of time— although many cases have no underlying cause.
No brain teaser here: frozen shoulder is literally a stiff shoulder with limited range of motion, accompanied by pain.
And unfortunately, just because you’re using your arms doesn’t mean you’re using the full capacity of the shoulder joint.
That’s why active, targeted mobility work can *help stave off this incredibly frustrating condition. While mobility training isn’t guaranteed prevention, it’s the best we can possibly do.
ALL TOGETHER NOW: Muscles and connective tissue require different stimulus in order to be strengthened.
A shoulder press does not stimulate the connective tissue in the ways mobility training does.
And that is why you MUST NOT SKIP the 200-level classes. They are going to be the most valuable at getting the connective tissue to learn how to control, generate, and absorb force.
They literally remodel connective tissue!
I just posted two ALL NEW shoulder classes: Shoulders 301 + 305. These classes are a bit longer because they’re slightly more advanced, but holy shoulder health are they gems! They focus strictly on strengthening rotation, the deepest layers of the joint, and the #1 most fundamental movement of the shoulder.
I can’t recommend these classes enough— they might be my absolute favorite of all shoulder classes, guaranteed to make your Shoulder CAR more robust.
IS THAT A FEMUR IN YOUR POCKET, OR ARE YOU JUST HAPPY TO SEE ME?
Heads UP for healthy hips! My next email will have an extra special offer for Loosen Up! readers that I won’t be giving to casual IG followers— be sure to open + save!
“WALK THIS WAY!” -Aerosmith, who clearly use a Walking Pad while not on tour to keep their youthful, energetic movements alive + kickin’.
For those who might find it as useful as I do— I recently reached out to WalkingPad, a company that makes treadmills that fit under most couches or beds and was able to get a Pad of my own AND procure a code for you to get items on their site for 20% off (code Modernmindandbodycare). These are great to use as an “exercise snack” when you need a quick midday boost, when you need steps on a rainy day— and good to keep in mind for a lovely holiday gift!
That’s it, friends.
Take good care,
-Angela
